Evangelic Girl is a Gun sees Ćmiel putting their own “cyborgian” spin on Bristol trip-hop and ‘90s gothic. The album features production from A.G. Cook, Chris Greatti, Mura Masa, Clams Casino, Fitnesss and Kin Leonn, Ćmiel’s trusted collaborator and co-executive producer of 2023’s softscars. yeule’s untreated vocals on the album also contribute to a sense of burning authenticity; rawness emerges as they abandon Auto-Tune. This jarring artistic styling is a turn from their glitchy previous works. As a counter to the emergence of AI, they wanted to imbue their vocals with a “raw, irreplaceable edge".
yeule will be embarking on a full North American tour following the release of Evangelic Girl is a Gun. Their previous albums, softscars and Glitch Princess, have both been named Best New Music by Pitchfork, with softscars landing at #10 on the year end album list and Glitch Princess being named one of the best albums of the decade so far.
Multi-Platinum singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley has your back, dropping the grungy delight “She Hates Me.” Landing somewhere between Whitley and Weezer, the new track features Bentley's patented style of country with a mischievous edge, plus the tongue-twisting story of a girl who is no longer falling for his country-boy charm. “She Hates Me” was penned at a writing camp last spring by Bentley and longtime collaborators Ashley Gorley, Ross Copperman and Chase McGill and falls in line with the spirit of previous hits “Somewhere On A Beach” and “Drunk On A Plane.”
His career has produced eight Number One albums, 22 Number One songs, more than nine billion global streams, plus 15 GRAMMY® nominations and membership in the historic Grand Ole Opry. Beyond that, millions of fans have connected to his songs featuring equal parts energy and emotion, and tastemakers around the nation continue to hail Bentley as one of country’s most authentic entertainers.

Childish Gambino - Atavista - Vinyl 2 LP
For years, Childish Gambino's Atavista hid in plain sight. When he released an unfinished version of the record on March 15, 2020, it spent just 12 hours on his website before he pulled it down. Reappearing on streaming a week later as 3.15.20, the project brought up almost as many questions as sparkling neo-soul anthems, which still sounded slicker than the average as raw cuts titled after timestamps.
Atavista is an ode to impermanence, never more directly than over the glimmering guitar of "Time" with Grande. ("One thing's for certain, baby/We're running out of time," they harmonize on the chorus.) But in Gambino's capable hands, Atavista also slows down to enjoy the view, the sonic equivalent of a luxe leather-interior BMW cruising an open California highway. "I did what I wanted to," he revels on closing track "Final Church." Atavista took many shapes over the years to reach a final form. In each warm refrain, tight sequence, and carefully chosen collaborator, Gambino demonstrates why some things are worth waiting for.
Gracie Abrams returns with the deluxe version of her sophomore album, The Secret of Us (Deluxe)released via Interscope Records. This is Gracie's most expansive body of work both sonically and narratively. Building onto a massive year for Gracie, she adds 4 new songs including fan favorite ‘That's So True'. Gracie's growth as a songwriter and vocalist is showcased in her most extroverted album yet, as she continues to work with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner. A portion of these songs were also written with Gracie's best friend, Audrey Hobert. This album was written with the urgency with which you run home to detail every moment of a night to your friend, with her live experiences over the past year having deeply shaped the identity of this album.

d4vd - WITHERED - Darkroom/Interscope Records
d4vd’s debut album, WITHERED, is one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the year. It completes the story laid out in his 2023 EPs, Petals to Thorns and The Lost Petals, as he continues to articulate a relationship’s ricocheting emotions: the coruscating highs and bleak lows, all set to music that’s intimate, hook-heavy, and refreshingly direct. Created primarily on Bandlab, WITHERED brought d4vd back to the place his music journey began: his sister’s closet, alone with his iPhone. To finish the record, d4vd journeyed to London with a trusted crew of collaborators to create a cohesive, intimate record that’s meant to be listened to sequentially — the songs consumed like chapters — that spotlights his evolution as a deft and dynamic vocalist.

Spiking her brand of country with rock 'n' roll spirit and unabashed vulnerability, she proudly wears her heart on her sleeve.

Rhiannon Giddens, Justin Robinson - What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow - Nonesuch Records
Justin Robinson and Rhiannon Giddens are two of the few people from the Black community caretaking Joe Thompson’s family tradition of fiddle and banjo music. For both, their Black banjo bodylands are primarily rooted in the North Carolina Piedmont, where Joe mentored them. The term “Black banjo bodylands” describes the deep connection between banjos, land, and the Black musicians who breathe life into them. Intimate engagements with place, nature, and community around this musical practice are essential to the tradition’s continuation. These bodylands constitute not just the individual player but the traditions, knowledge, and spirit handed down from their musical ancestors. On What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow, Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson simply chose to bring the places and people—even the season—with them. Heralded by the cawing of American crows, shot through with the round thrumming of periodical cicadas, these recordings represent the music exactly as it is: a particularly engaging piece of a particular place’s rich sonic ecosystem. Giddens and Robinson emphasize place, communication and collaboration in these sound offerings from the North Carolina Piedmont homes of Joe Thompson and Etta Baker and the historic Mill Prong House. This record is not about flashy arrangements, or displays of virtuosity for its own sake. It’s about the relaxed, understated flow that arises at the junction of long friendship, a sense of belonging, and monstrous technical proficiency. We make this music, we make it together, and we make it here. This record refuses to be removed.
